Simon Wong

Simon C.Y. Wong is an independent consultant serving a range of clients and a Tutor in Sustainable Finance at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.

Over the past 20+ years, Simon’s activities have focused on governance, sustainability, institutional investment, strategy/organization, and capital markets. He has worked with and served boards of directors and CEOs/senior management of listed companies, state-owned enterprises, family firms, co-operatives, investment institutions, regulatory agencies, and international organizations.

From 2018–2020, Simon was a partner at Tapestry Networks, where he co-led the Lead Director Network (US) and Insurance Governance Leadership Network (North America and Western Europe). Prior to that, he was an External Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company, partner at activist investment firm Governance for Owners, and Head of Corporate Governance at Barclays Global Investors (UK). Simon started his professional career as a securities lawyer with Linklaters & Paines and Shearman & Sterling in London, and also served as Principal Administrator/Counsel at the OECD in Paris.

His prior academic appointments include serving as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law, where he taught International Corporate Governance, and a Visiting Fellow in the Law Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Simon’s writings have appeared in the Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, McKinsey Quarterly, New York Times, and other publications. In 2013, he contributed three essays to the Harvard Business Review compendium on How CEOs Can Fix Capitalism.

Simon holds a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University and is admitted to the New York bar.
